. THE
DRIVER TRAINING ACADEMY STORY:
.
In 1974, driving instructor, Trevor
Sobey purchased the Ballarat School of Advanced Driving from former British
racing driver and Melbourne Traffic Operations Group Police Officer, Roger
Ormsby.
The Ballarat School of Advanced
Driving was renamed Driver Training Academy.
.
Following the next several years
of extensive training, Trevor gained the Presidency of the Institute of
Advanced Motorists and a consultancy with VicRoads (RTA). There he
joined a team of psychologists and teachers to develop and implement a
range of road safety projects. During the development of these projects,
Trevor studied worldwide research into accident causes and training methods.
.
This valuable experience, coupled
with studies in training and counselling techniques enabled Trevor to design
a unique driving instruction program, which was named "CLASS-DRIVING".
The
structure of the "CLASS-DRIVING" program maintains a high level of consistency amongst its
instructors and an improvement in the safety records of participants.
